What UE DC64 doesn't like about Tavola Hells Kitchen:
My wife and I came for lunch. Really cool restaurant ambience. My wife had pizza with figs and Gorgonzola (Medina? and absolutely loved it, in part because it was different from most pizzas. I had the pasta cacio e Pepe and it was unremarkable. The pasta was lumpy, and did not seem to have emulsified enough. And to my taste too little pecorino and pepper. Sat outside for an early dinner. Service was friendly and quick. Caesar salad was delicious. It's a simple dish but not often executed well. Here the dressing was the star, with fresh, crisp greens. Margherita pizza was fresh out of the wood fired oven. Good, flavorful sauce. Dough was light and had good flavor.
I am in NY for a week on business. I inquired with the Concierge at my Hotel what Italian restaurants were in the area. They highly recommended Tavola. They were right, the food was excellent! I went to dinner at 3:45pm and had Eggplant Parm and a glass of Chianti. Once finished, I asked about dessert, cheesecake perhaps? I was told by the server “no deserts available until dinner time” she would not serve me dessert.I have a feeling because I was dining alone she wanted me to leave so she could take another party.Food: 10Service: 1
Truly the best Italian we’ve ever had….ever. We tried to call for reservations and they were too busy, but since it was our last night in NYC….we took a chance and stopped by. We were greeted with open arms. While they didn’t have a table, the owner offered us a comfortable seat at the bar. I wasn’t super excited about eating with my son and husband at the bar, but decided to just try it out. The bar tender Armando (I believe is his name), was the nicest guy. We are pretty picky eaters and only wanted spaghetti pomodoro and he talked me into the meatballs. The pasta was cooked perfectly! Al dente!!! The sauce was not too acidic, not too sweet, had a little kick to it that made it just incredible. Then I took a bite of the most amazing meatball I’ve ever had. I’m not sure what all is in them, but my gosh I’ve never had anything like it before. It’s the kind of thing that you truly savor each bite.Thank you so much for making our last night in NYC so special. It was truly the most amazing experience we had in New York and will definitely be back! Kid-friendliness: My 15 year old son is pretty picky and not only did they cater to what he asked for, but the waitstaff welcomed him and everyone was just so kind. It’s not always the case with some upscale restaurants, especially in the city.
