Fabulous fish, chips and salad was enjoyed in this peaceful setting beside Roma Street Station and near, in view of, Roma Street Parklands.Fish was succulent. Chips good. Salad healthy!A creamy, ice coffee with abundant icecream accompanied the meal. It was a most welcome place to recover from a long train trip before taking the airtrain out to the airport. What Rebeka Klein doesn't like about Melange Cafe:
This may be the lowest rating I've ever given a restaurant/cafe.
My experience at Melange Cafe was quite poor. We dined here due to the convenience of the location, situated within the Roma Street Parklands, but the food and coffee options were overpriced and average at best.
The real low point - we observed the manager yelling at patrons. He represents the epitome of terrible customer service. I... View all feedback.
I visited on a week day with family including small children. Everyone enjoyed our lunch and the two staff were very considerate of our needs (e.g. half cups of milk for the little kids). We didn't think the meals were particularly expensive as a treat...after a free morning out in the beautiful park!
Dropped in with the family for coffee/milkshakes and cake. Friendly lady and man served us and the drinks were nice as were the cakes. Then enjoyed a nice walk around the beautiful Roma Street parklands.
We were directed to a table and given less than two minutes to look over the menu before the waiter came to ask if we were ready. We stated not quiet yet and asked for a few more minutes and were then promptly ignored by...the waiter for over 15 minutes while he wandered around chatting to other patrons and clearing plates from tables near ours. We left without ordering so can’t comment on the quality of the food but if it’s anything like the service I wouldn’t recommend wasting your time or money.
I dont normally write reviews but i was so disappointed with my experience i feel i have to share. I chose this place from their website which looks quite professional (a pity i didnt think to check reviews while online! . We went for lunch on...a thursday. There were only about two other parties when we arrived but it still took the wait staff about 20 minutes to take our order. The drinks came out quite quickly after finally ordering and the food followed soon after. My friend had the thai beef salad which looked and tasted delicious. I however ordered the roasted root vegetable salad with fetta and soy dressing for $16. I received a small bowl with a handful of baby spinach topped with cubes of mostly roasted beetroot, with a few more cubes of pumpkin and sweet potato. Had i not remembered there was supposed to be fetta according to the menu, i wouldnt have noticed the very few crumbs that were too small and few to even taste. The bowl was ringed with a line of dressing so the actual meal was dry, boring looking and all i could taste was basic roasted beetroot. When i queried the fetta the waiter said that it was only supposed to be a hint and that was all they ever gave and when i asked for more dressing he brought out a small dish of what appeared to be bottled french dressing, totally unlike the sweet soy dressing in the dish. Once our dishes were cleared away we then had another long wait before we were finally able to catch the waiter 's eye to take sweets and coffee orders. The coffees were ok and the pecan/caramel cakes looked nice but tasted pretty ordinary, especially when the dessert cost almost as much as the main. Definitely not value for money! I doubt I 'll be back any time soon even for a coffee.
We stopped her to have morning tea.. they have a great display of home made cakes and slice.. we chose the fruit bread, home made... this cafe is very busy, caters for breakfast and lunch.
