What Carmelita Sanchez doesn't like about Il Circolino:
We didn't have high exoectations when we sat down at the outside tabkes but on a Saturday in August when so many places were shut I (resident in Bologna almost 20 years) settled on Il Circolino as it had an Emilia menu and reasonable prices. I had a lovely and beautifully presented beef tartare while my British guests ordered Tagliatelle al Ragù, very good, very tasty and the oasta was hand rolled, while one of us or... The circolo is always underestimated. Ok, the servers may not be the friendliest on Earth and certainly they are no chatterboxes. Granted, the place looks like a circolo , meaning a recreation area for retired people. But the food is genuinely good, it respects the Bologna tradition in all aspects, and the pasta if hand-made. The Bolognese cutlet is actually better than other more-known restaurants, the wine is fairly decent and the dessert always freshly made. This is a great pit-stop for a quick lunch with a more-than-honest price.
I was here two hours ago to enjoy food with my three kids. The place is really kinder friendly: you have to pay 5 euro to allow your children to play at the indoor playground, there are a lot of tables and the dishes are full of food even if I found desserts very sweet...
We came to this restaurant just by chance.I does not appear to have outside seating but there does seem to be some tables in a small courtyard entered from inside the place. When we entered (7 guys) the waitress asked if we had read the menu on the board out side,I said we had looked at it and she proceeded to announce that they did not serve pizza.Clearly we looked the type. She then read off the choices of genuine Bolognese meals made with local produce.Everyone cleared their plates. The bill for 7 meals one wine water and coffee 107.00 euro.total bargain.

We had two lunches here and both were great tasting and great value. They did a fab antipasti the food kept coming! They also do a 2 course lunch for €9 in the week, I challenge you to find better value. Of course wash it all down with some local wine, perfect! Thanks for the great service:
