SPENGER'S FRESH FISH GROTTO - Berkeley

The food at Spenger is good and everything, but I think it can be a bit expensive. The place has a beautiful feeling, with various oceanic doodads. They have a new menu every day, which probably means that their fish are actually fresh as they say. I just don't like how they decided to scale their prices and make things look a little more beautiful to lure in the richer customers. I don't think they can justify a price increase by making meals look a little more nice and have a more classic look. Maybe it's just me. Then again, seafood is generally expensive, so maybe I just will picky. But I still like the food, so it makes it possible to have four stars even though I lean on three.

Food is great. I'm going here with my family (it's one of those who take your family / date going somewhere a little more casual and cheaper with your friends type of space), and we all love it. Calamari is particularly brilliant. I enjoy the diversity as they offer seafood, steak and pasta. It is a little expensive to order the $18-35 series depending on what you naturally order, but location location location is its right at the end of the 4th, so you can enjoy a day / evening shopping, etc. Ambiance is funny, all fishing monuments and like... ships and huge swordfishes on the walls.

For the price, I was not impressed ivebeen here twice the first time that I went the service was extremely slow and there were only about 5 -8 groups of people who served the white people extremely quickly very disappointed I gave them a second chance and came here on a Saturday night I ordered Calamari and mussels for apetizer. the Kalamari was good and so were the shells, but not so good. ive had tasted better for the same price diving sauce for Calamari as it tasted from a glass clam chower as it was ordered from a can Ono for entree fish ws dry (ono is fat and hard to dry) and it came with steamed rice and a "asian stlye" Medley of vegetables with a kind of soy sauce based sauce to taste 6 apples. It's better fucking good. I paid $82. I was very disappointed and will never come back here again

That made me very sad: my father took me here when I was a child in the 70s, and I remember that it was a wonderful family restaurant with fantastic eating. Unfortunately, my wife and I brought our children here last Sunday and it is no longer the same place. the restaurant was about 1/3 full, we were not visited by our waiter for more than 15 minutes and came only after I informed our hostess that we had not yet been seen, our boy came to the table at room temperature, as it might have been omitted) two tables, which were after the exact same size party received their food before we did it, drinks were not asked after filled. all the time, two waiters served a table of 7 near us, telling sweat, sitting on an edge to chat and several times back to fill and remove boards. very frustrating. eating was good, but not enough to overcome the failings of the service. on the way out we ran into a couple who had gone because they had 25 minutes to space and had not seen their server yet. when the restaurant reads this: from a long-term fan of spengers I sincerely hope that they will address the care of their former giggles! we would all be happy to see you, but we need a reason! your service must be addressed immediately. Thank you.

Customer service is excellent! eating is good. I want to see more baked seafood options on the menu. a beautiful place to go for a date, after work, and for special occasions.
