We ate here on our first evening in Bergerac. We had a variety of dishes and all of them were good though of varying value - for example the price of the omelette was more than the steak!
I was in Bergerac looking for some really tasty food and came across "Le Sud." I enjoy Moroccan food park, particularly a good lamb tajine. Unfortunately, I decided to order a sea food brick which consisted of mussels and bits of calamari - both were over cooked and looked more like samosas than authentic North African brick. The waiter said he thought they had run out of the sea food brick - I should have been warned. The lamb tajine with prunes and nuts sounded good but was very short on flavour, though the lamb was well cooked but the sauce was thin. Not a memorable meal. Not a cheap meal it came to €27.00 without any wine or coffee.
We were looking for Sunday Lunch between Christmas and New Year as a party of 7 without reservations, everywhere looked busy but we could see empty tables in this small but accommodating restaurant. We were made most welcome and a delicious meal of tagine, couscous, and kebabs was produced. Sensibly priced with the option of the fixed price 3 course for only 13 euro. Deserves to be busier, happy to go again.
Le Sud is on the fringe of Bergerac Old Town and has both indoor and terrace seating, we arrived late on the anniversary of our wedding and were a party of eight (including two children). We had not made a reservation and the team were very accommodating. Tables were hastily rearranged and before we knew it we were being seated our young waitress (I only wish I knew her name) was friendly, informative and very witty - completely charming our whole party immediately. We ordered a variety of meals from all parts of the menu; from plat de jour to al a carte and the food was well cooked and wonderfully seasoned. All members of our party enjoyed both food and refreshment on offer. The ambience was wonderfully relaxed and the setting is magical. We all commented on the practical, and yet beautiful lighting on the terrace area. Our waitress was attentive without being intrusive and the experience was very enjoyable. We enjoy desserts and so all opted for one, these were enjoyable but I have to mention, in particular, the Irish coffee I ordered - this was very much infused with good quality whisky and the taste was magnificent. The team were very professional and efficient in their manner while maintaining a friendly warmth throughout, I would recommend Le Sud to anybody wanting to sample good quality French food and a reasonable price in beautiful surroundings with fantastic service.
