Our Czech friend took us to this restaurant, claiming it offers the most authentic Czech cuisine in New York, and it did not disappoint! The array of meat, cheese, and cabbage dishes was exactly what I expected; I found myself moaning with pleasure as each new dish arrived at our table. I’d say the duck was the standout, closely followed by the smoked pork. Be sure to order a few shots of Slivovitz to help wash it al... View all feedback.
What Whitney Denary doesn't like about Koliba:
Charming place, but not great for sharing. We tried to clarify the “$3 for plate sharing” prior to starting because we were sharing among 7 people. Unfortunately, we were charged $3 per person $27) for the one plate we shared. Just a heads up for visiting in the future. Otherwise, the food was delicious!Food: 5/5 View all feedback.
Best duck in NYC? Yes! It would be a challenge to find better duck, duck, kachna than Koliba. It is not available every day, so call before you go, but go anyway! It is delicate, juicy, meat, its thin crispy perfect skin will delight your taste buds. It is not in the menu, make sure you ask for it. If they don't have it, everything is excellent. I hate duck in most restaurants. It is occasionally acceptable. At Koliba, it is the traditional European preparation to change your mind about duck. Brought with red cabbage and knedliky (pumps). My wife had beef with dill sauce and extra dill sauce haha, which is in house style cooking in the Czech tradition. Excellent Pivo (beer) of course. Started with garlic polvka soup and soup soup, good start of meal. We are here 4-5 times over 15 years and they have never disappointed! Note that I couldn't resist a taste of the duck before I got the picture!
Took us right back to the Czech Republic, serving delicious traditional comforting food and perfect beer, all inside an atmosphere very similar to Czech interiors. They’ll even ask if you want to speak in Czech or English. Na Zdraví!
Wonderful česnakova, and pečene kachna! The knedlik was really good too! Hands down the best Czech/Slovak restaurant in the U.S.!
Absolutely love this restaurant. The smoked pork and red cabbage are so good. Its very affordable and servers are very nice and accommodating though can be slow at times. The atmosphere inside is so cozy and fun, and there is outside seating for some fresh air
Extremely good food. The garlic cheesy bread was maybe the best bread I've had in my life
