I had some desserts from this place and all were great. had the chocolate chip cookie (my fave) and carrot cake slice. the cookie was gf, but over days I warmed it. However, the pane of cake became very hard, so eat that on the same day, if possible. I guess it's about gluten-free desserts. I will be back to try the rest of the desserts. Too much space dedicated to merchandise -not enough options on the food side For a vegan coffee shop, this place is a rip-off. $10 for a vegan chocolate bar and nearly $4.00 for a small coffee. Okay, so I told myself this was a specialty cafe Then I walked around. Most of the store had clothing items, bags, etc. There was a small area dedicated to baked goods, cakes, drinks, and pastries.. I found this little place after I lived in astoria for 5 years. they have marked a menu with all vegan items. I had only one sandwich so far and it was amazing.
This is more like a vegan or vegetarian place with a few meat options. I eat the Rainbow sandwich very much (re sure to give you vegan cheese.) it has avocado / tomaten / wobble maische mit tempeh speck, greens, vegan cheese vegannaise. they have several sweet sandwiches (some with side) salate, a vegan suppe of the day, a bundle of prepared sides in the refrigerator (bice, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, other vegetables) and omg the baked goods. they have more sorts of vegan cookies than I have ever seen somewhere else. it's just worth going for it. they also have killer vegan cinnamon rolls, and some other rotating vegan tasty: cupcakes, cakes, hazelnuts baked, various muffins. some gluten-free options, also. they have ~4 species of vegan empanadas and a non-vegane. this is what I mean that the place is a bit more vegan concentrated. there are also smoothies, juiceable, organic products and a surprising selection of vegan and/or organic foods. vitamine, tees, a few bulk treated nuts. this place really packs it. a couple of tables and a counter, maybe enough for about 8-10 people at a time to eat. friendly service to boot.
THIEFS!! I am surprised they're still open. Years ago i shopped here and the owner (gk) added the price of a $10 pill box to my order which i did not purchase and then set the pill box to the side of the counter. i couldn't see what was being added to the total cause the screen that is supposed to show it to you was turned away fr the customer. i noticed after leaving cause the bill was SO high. i wonder how many other times i got scammed and didn't notice. he also tried to scam me a few times with honey. i'm gk too and he shames my culture. DO NOT SHOP HERE OR IF U DO PLS CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS AND REPORT THEM!!! the lady who works there (i think it's his sis) is a scammer too!
Absolutely amazing! They had such good food and gluten free goods to boot! Everything was so yummy that if I’m back in the area, I’ll definitely try other things on the menu
Fresh Start is one of Astoria's sensory treasures. What a delicious combination of amazing food (try the Rainbow Sandwich), soothing products, and wonderful service. In particular, Haroula is so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! Cannot recommend highly enough!
