The ploughman's platter was delightful and the service was dog friendly. I would rate the service a 4 out of 5 and the location a 5 out of 5. The highlight of the hotel was definitely the great view. View all feedback.
What Mitzi Jones doesn't like about The Family Tree:
Don't sit anywhere other than the main room otherwise it looks like you won't get served. We left this time as we were waiting too long. The first time we were here the staff took ages again to get to us and only because I went up to find out what was happening. Food was alright but don't insist on table service if you can't do it! I recently stopped in for lunch on my way to Cheshire after reading some reviews. I was disappointed to find that it took 5 minutes for someone to seat me, and then I waited 15 minutes for someone to take my order. In the end, I decided to leave as waiting 15 minutes just to be offered a drink was unacceptable. The service was really poor and I will not be returning. It's a shame, as there were 4 staff members working, so there should have been someone available to assist me.
We were very disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. When we were seated at our table, there was a sign indicating that it was reserved at 10:30, which made us feel like an inconvenience. The service was very poor, despite being told that unlimited tea and coffee were included with our meal. Throughout the hour and a half we were there, we were never asked if everything was okay and had to repeatedly ask for more drinks. The Prosecco we ordered was served in unopened bottles, and the breakfast made with cheap supermarket bread was dry and bland. We were frustrated by the lack of attention and had to even ask for a napkin. When we finally left, we were not asked about our experience, which made us realize that they knew their service was subpar. This experience was supposed to be a birthday gift, but instead it left us feeling upset and dissatisfied. We would not recommend dining at this restaurant.
This restaurant is perfect for lunch or brunch. It's recommended to make a reservation because it can get busy. We visited for lunch based on a recommendation and were impressed by the delicious ploughman’s and steak baguette, paired with some beers. The restaurant is also dog-friendly, which is always a bonus!
The restaurant experience was terrible from beginning to end. Despite not having a spare table available, we hoped for a good meal. However, we waited approximately 20 minutes for our drinks, which were warm as they had not been properly refrigerated. The front of house was manned by young, untrained boys which resulted in multiple mistakes throughout our meal. The salt grinder was empty and the staff were unable to refill it promptly, causing our meals to go cold. The lack of staff led to a chaotic atmosphere, with the same employees also preparing for a party in the function room. The food was average at best and the menus were in poor condition, peeling at the edges. Overall, we were very disappointed with the entire experience and do not plan to return or recommend this restaurant.
