The name of Willem I who was conceived by this station originated from the name of the fortress that was not far from the complex of this station, namely the Willem I Fort known also as the Pendhem Fort. On May 21, 1873, Samrang Line–Vorstenlanden and Kedungjati–Ambarawa has been completed. The second period is the construction of the Secang railway line–Ambarawa.
