The Big C Athletic Club, founded in 1978 by Ken Hofmann, renowned philanthropist and former owner of the Oakland A’s and Seattle Seahawks, is the oldest and most prestigious athletic club in Contra Costa County. The club differentiates itself from traditional fitness centers by offering meticulous cleanliness, exceptional service, and top-notch fitness facilities. In 1995, Hofmann established the Community Youth Center (CYC), a nonprofit sports and academic complex dedicated to children between the ages of 3 and 18 who are involved in after-school and weekend programs led by professional coaches and tutors. Ownership of The Big C was transferred to the CYC in 2007 to support future generations of youth. The partnership between The Big C and the CYC aims to cater to the fitness and recreation needs of the entire community.
